The Birth of a Bike Rally (continued)

We were heading into the new millennium and we wanted the 2000 event to be extra special – an it was. The City of Virginia Beach granted us a parade permit, our feature concert, Lonestar had just won a Grammy the week before, and the weather was perfect. Other weekend concerts included the Kenleys and the return of .38 Special. Nearly 15,000 people showed up over two days and $50,000 was raised for Juvenile Diabetes, Virginia Beach SPCA, and Davis Corner Rescue Squad.

In 2001 due to Hammerheads alcohol beverage bond and a perceived “conflict of interest” because of the sale of beer during the event, the name was changed to the “Virginia Beach Bike Classic”. The event was now catching the attention of bikers and vendors from all parts of the United States and Canada. Vendors come from New Mexico, California, and Arizona as well as up and down the East Coast.

The 2001 event was the biggest so far. Hotels booked up, the campground sold out, and even the City of Virginia Beach was getting into the swing of things. Satellite parking had to be established with trolleys running back and forth to bring the spectators coming in cars. Camp ground parking was reserved for motorcycles and handicapped vehicles.

First rate entertainment from Travis Tritt, Sara Evane, and Rascal Flatts; ever 100 vendors; children’s activities, bike shows, poker run, the parade along the oceanfront, field events, tattoo contest, and a silent auction all contributed to raising over $100,000 for charities.

2002 was to be the most promising Bike Classic ever. All the camp sites were sold out and there were more hotel reservations booked than ever before. But as fate would have it, one week before the Bike Classic, the weather man started calling for rain for the Bike Classic weekend and for once he was right! We had torrential down pours on Friday and Saturday and Sunday was a mud pit. However, the sun did come out on Sunday and thanks to the good hearted biker community and locals alike the show was a huge success. Even though we had three days of rain, $30,000 was still raised for charity.

Since 2003, the Virginia Beach Bike Classic has proudly teamed up with the USO of hampton Roads. In the past four years, we have raised over $150,000 for our local military men and women and their families. The event continues to grow year after year, and features some of the world's most renowned bike builders such as Arlene Ness, Dave Perewitz, Donnie Smith, Russell Mitchel, Indian Larry Legacy, Redneck Engineering, The Wrench, Doug Klein, Swede Built, Milwaukee Iron and Strip Club Choppers.

In addition, the VBBC is committed to providing fun family entertainment including showcasing up and coming new performers and well established entertainers such as Travis Tritt, Trace Adkins, Terry Clark, The Charlie Daniels Band, The Wreckers, .38 Special, Steppenwolf, Phil Vassar, and Brad Paisley.

There is something special for everyone at the Virginia Beach Bike Classic! - Over 100 Local and National vendors, Bike Shows, Burn Out Contests, Parade of Bikes, Bikini Contest, Kids Play area with Face Painting & Activities, Great Food, & lots of Entertainment along with some on the most beautiful motorcycles ever built!
